Landing: A Movement Festival at Zumwalt Acres

Join us on the farm to explore how dance and movement can help us foster deep, right relationships with land and with each other.

August 9th - 11th

Sheldon, IL

  • What is Landing?

At a time when many of us have felt disconnected from land, food systems, and our bodies, we’re excited to carve paths of reconnection. This is the inaugural year of what we hope to be a vibrant annual community happening.

  • Our offering:

Virtual learning and practice sessions in May, June, and July

A movement festival August 9-11th, 2024 at Zumwalt Acres, a regenerative farm and community in Sheldon, IL

A closing virtual gathering in late August

    Continued learning and practice together

  • How can I join?

You are welcome to participate in all components, just the virtual learning sessions, or just the festival. Please fill out our interest form here.

  • What is the festival?

Landing festival weekend will include workshops (movement, writing, and dialogue), performances, farm meals, and community building. Everyone from professional dancers to our dads will be there! Detailed schedule TBA.

  • Questions that will activate our gatherings include:

What do you know about the land you live on — the soil, the beings that make it up, its ways and histories, the people who have stewarded it…?

How do you fit into the land’s histories?

What rituals and ways of honoring and being in relationship to land have you been disconnected from in your ancestry? Which are you connected to?

  • Overarching questions that guide this project include:

What does it mean to be in reciprocal and loving relationship with land?

How might settlers be in interdependence with land while participating in Indigenous justice and sovereignty?

What does it mean to relate with land that you are ancestrally connected to, and land that you aren’t, with care and complexity?

  • What if I don't have dance experience?

We believe that every person with a body is a dancer, and that to move with intention is to dance. Come dance with us!

  • How can I support this project?
