Week 8, Spring 2022
Hey everyone!
Shabbat shalom! This week on the farm has been much quieter than most as some of us left the farm to celebrate passover elsewhere.
This past weekend Matt, Isabelle, and Daniella went to visit Kankakee State Park. We spent some time sitting and listening to the waterfall. It was so cool to experience some of the first sings of spring with the forest’s floor blooming with light greens and flower buds emerging vividly on younger trees and saplings.
This week Matt worked hard on building trenches in ATR for our beds and created a deeper, water garden bed. Daniella also tried to help a bit but got dizzy and spent more time laying on a hay-patch nearby. We also thinned out our radish seedlings which have already been partially thinned out by our deer friends. Thank you pals! With our radish seedlings Isabelle made us a yummy salad dressing.
This week also consisted of us working on our beehives. JR has been assembling honeycomb wax sheets inside our frames while Daniella has been making more of them to fill our hive boxes. We continued to apply a mixture of tung oil and citrus oil to the base and top of our beehive for weather protection. JR’s container for trapping outdoor bees has also arrived. Lexi has been working hard continuing to drill buckets, clean them, and monitor mushroom technicalities.
On the farm we have been eating lots of matzot for passover, and have been avoiding rice, leavened bread, corn, barely, and nutritional yeast pretty collectively. This weekend we are looking forward to joining Lexi on a mushroom gathering excursion back at Kankakee State Park.
Daniella and Lexi are also excited to share about a meditation sit they will be returning to this Saturday that is hosted by Rev. Angel Kyodo Williams. This sit is a half/full day online meditation hosted every month and is a “donate what you can”. Click here to see more events like this one!
Have a great weekend everyone!
Lots of love from us here on the farm <3
